I thrive on creating designs that are unexpected, like placing paint in an unexpected area (not just the wall), or hidden storage solutions (whaaaat?? that gorgeous ottoman’s top becomes a removable tray?). Oh, if you haven’t seen the PART 1 of this design reveal then check it out now (psst, I show pics of the gorgeous faux carpet tile cow hide design installation). Ok, back to the unexpected. … that’s me below acting like Vanna White pointing to the
letters window frame which with the client’s approval we unexpectedly painted with a sprinkle of mellow yellow.
A black floor lamp shade may seem unexpected, but it was a perfect balance for a black leather sofa (yep, they became BFFs). Allow me to explain; in this design, the client wanted to keep her comfy black leather sofa, buuuut it was a tad out of place. So, the mission (which I choose to accept, wink!) was to incorporate items to balance the dark color of the sofa at a higher eye level. Cue - floor lamp with black fabric shade to the rescuuuuuue.
Now the color floats a tad more cohesively from the floor level (black sofa) to midway level (black lamp shade). Plus, we balanced it even more later on with the new black frames and reusing client’s current black curtain rods (top level).
Here’s a pic below of the beginning stage of our install. Paint almost done, and curtains r not up yet .
I used the color of my client’s bike (which she looooves) for the inspirational color of the ottoman we purchased ….
The ottoman has another unexpected design element. That’s right, some furniture items are super ninjas! It’s an:
elegant kick ass ottoman
an extra seat
a storage bin
an serving tray
I told you …. it’s a ninja item. Don’t you agree? I also created a work space within the living room. Yep, another unexpected function for the living room. We had to make sure it looked great since it was in such an exposed area plus be super functional. We added a corner table, beautiful lamp that has a clear base with a blue cord, and a large board for posting notes and photos (that’s Murat below installing it, he’s also a ninja installer!).
Here’s a little peek at the office area + sofa area.
Update: see how the living room turned out –> check out more BEFORE and AFTER photos of the room here! Oooh, I also share my design concept scribbles with the ‘before photos’. Have a beautiful day!
