Remember my ice-cream popcorn combo? Well, today’s is a runner up, as my 2nd fave combo (maybe it’s bec of the pretty patriotic colors, or it could be the sugar rush of the sprinkles still running through my system).
I have been using Pinterest a LOT lately as my inspiration board for storing my “attempt-to-make-without-burning-my-kitchen-down recipes. That’s where I saw today’s patriotic inspirational (red, white, and blue woohooo) TREAT posted by Amy from She Wears Many Hats (cool blog name, right!). I just HAD TO give it a try ….
It’s perfect for Independence Day celebration this coming 4th (a USA tradition). Easy to make = no fire (stove) involved! I got my favorite WHITE popcorn bag, and BLUE and RED sprinkles from Party City and was ready to go …. sort of.
Amy used Candiquick in her popcorn, the liquid helps the sprinkles stay on. I have never heard of Candiquick before nor did I want to go to the supermarket for ONE items (those ventures tend to make me over-exercise going up and down the grocery aisles attempting to find the item).
So, instead I tried using butter ……
HUGE fail, it turned the popcorn mushy, plus I don’t like the taste of lots of butter in my popcorn. Neeeeext …… maybe if I just shook the sprinkles it it would simply attack to the crevices ……
HUGE fail, not sure what on earth I was thinking attempting THAT, the sprinkles just slipped and slidded to the BOTTOM of the bowl. Next, … eff it … I’ll just spray some water on the popcorn ….
PERFECT! … the sprinkles happily hugged the popcorn and I didn’t have to add any other “taste” to my already favorite popcorn (which is Smart Popcorn White Cheddar) <- so good that I usually sneak some in at the movies (sshhh, we’ll leave that as our secret).
Do you want some?
Have a happy 4th of July! Oh, and if u try to make some patriotic popcorn, let me know how it went. I spent yesterday afternoon at a photo shot in Manhattan, here’s a peek (posted a few weeks ago) of some of the design coolness that was implemented - magnetic wall, stencil, etc.
