(sing-along) PAINT DIPPED PLANTER

Aloe plant - white paint dipped planter

As the season (weather) changes (to brrrrr-ness) we may want to bring some outdoors plants inside to keep them warm or autumn-ize our current planters or buy new plants to hang in our homes to remind us of the tropical warm weather (pina coladas drinks optional) in our home. Try eyeballing left over paint that you may have stored in your home and create your very own PAINT DIPPED PLANTER. See more photos below and the 3 easy steps.  Continue reading

THEIR (beautiful) MODERN LIVING ROOM INCLUDES CARDBOARD LIGHTING

0_ada Gonzalez New York interior Decorator _ colorful living room Here I am again doing my daily stretches also known as ‘being onsite during a design installation’. All the blue tape on on walls indicate where picture frames would be mounted. Feel free to do a double take on that ceiling light fixture. Bec, YES IT IS. We went ‘there’! It’s a corrugated cardboard light fixture (close up pics below). Okay without further ado here are the beautiful modern living room photos of Stephanie & Bill’s living room and even a little glimpse of how their daughter Kathryn’s play table looks next to mom and dad’s living room (hint: I used her pink teacup as a color inspiration!).

YOUR 8 WEEKEND LINKS (apple pie cupcakes, etc.)

BEACH

Before the brrrr weather kicks in over here, I intend on cherishing every-single-day left of summer. You too? I plan on BBQ’ing meals every day and soaking my toes in the grass until my toes fall off (or when they start complaining that it’s cold). Stay tuned this coming week to see all the cool stuff we purchased to style my client’s ($1.5M) apartment for sell, it looks AH-mazing! See how our paint dipped planter turned out, and the final reveal of Stephanie & Bill’s living room. Oh, and we are also working on showing you how to how to make $0.79 notebooks look expensive! Photo above shows the beach we stayed at (we became beach coach potatoes) during our get-a-away in Cape May this month (more pics here).

In preparation for autumn, Ginette found an apple pie cupcake (yes, CUPCAKE) recipe that will have you drooling. She also found great solutions for hiding those ugly charger cables, storing paper clips/bobby pins (hint: Tic Tac containers), and much more. Check out your 8 weekend links.

LAMP SHADE TURNED INTO A PLANTER

1 unique planter - using light fixture shade

A lot of my clients that move into a new home have a #1 request. . . . please get rid of that UGLY ceiling light fixture! Which I happily do. But, did you know that you can also re-purpose some of those ‘ugly’ ceiling lamp shades into a cool modern looking ‘unique’ planter? Below is the SIMPLE way that you can turn the unexpected (like an old ceiling lamp shade) into a planter. For this project I used a ceiling fan lamp glass shade and turned it into a planter. From ugly to unique, see how below.

SEE 3 (modern) STORAGE SOLUTIONS for PLAYROOM for Kathryn and her mom + dad

1 modern play area in living room_hanging shelves wall cabinet 490 Since I specialize in creating affordable solutions, I don’t accept high end projects that consist of expensive furniture items; meaning I wouldn’t buy a 5,000 chair for a client, instead I would buy a $350 one and make it look amazing! With my secret ‘awesome-sauce’. It’s a secret so I can’t share the ingredient with you. Ok, I’ll share the secret ingredient . . . it’s love! I absolutely LOVE what I do, decorating clients homes customizing it to their style and budget is so dear to my heart. As insanely busy as it gets, I love the process of bringing my designs (tailored to my clients wish list) to life. The wishlist for my clients’ 3 year old daughter Kathryn’s design was to (1) carve out space within their living room for a play area (2) have storage, and (3) maintain a cohesive flow (so the play area didn’t stand out like a sore thumb) within their living room. Mission accomplished! Check out the 3 storage solutions I added (you may even be tempted to add it to your own room) AND photos on how the design turned out. Warning - lots of cuteness in the photos!

NO SEW PILLOW COVERS (in 1 minute, seriously!)

490 Intro_Ada Gonzalez_DIY no sew pillow covers I’m excited to share that I have teamed up with Furniture.com to create DIY projects for their Pursuit of Home division. My 1st DIY creation PUBLISHED yesterday (yaay!). Featuring, how to create pillow covers without sewing in JUST 1 MINUTE!  I wanted to show their readers and YOU that instead of having to buy tons of different pillows for every season, or holiday, or every time your pillow starts to fade, you can simply invest in buying fabric (you just need 1 yard!) to cover 14” to 16” pillows. Just 2 items are needed, and it takes 8 steps that you can do in less than a minute. Seriously, I timed myself!

CUSHION COVER CREATED with the help OF A HAIR PIN

0 DIY custom size pink chevron seat cushion cover One of my clients needed a cushion cover BADLY! The cushion itself was in perfect condition. It passed my tushy comfort test, however the white leather cover not only had holes in it from cigarette smoking but it also looked dingy and worn-out. So, time to beautify (economically). The cushion is an semi-oblong shape which makes it a bit harder to simply buy a replacement cover that fits perfectly. Therefore, we went the DIY route and created a custom fitted cushion cover for approx $10.00 ($8.00 for 1 yard of fabric + $1.79 for an elastic ribbon. The secret ingredient for making this DIY easy to create is a bobby pin. Yep! Check out below where I purchased the materials, the 7 steps for creating your own pretty cushion cover, and how I look when I placed the cover on my head (clearly I had waaaay to much coffee that day).
