How was your weekend? I ended up working this Saturday (catch up day) since I am going to be out most of this morning (I have a design presentation). I did managed to prep these pics for you … MY WALL MOUNTED COAT RACK DIY (uuhh huuu <– that’s my happy sound effect). Do you like the rustic look? When hubby and I moved in there was a tiny white rack that held practically nothing, sooo … DIY to the rescue! We created our own for about $20 including the paint stain!
Here’s the journey …. rewind …… I measured the length of the foyer wall where I wanted it mount, then we headed to Home Depot. We choose a thick wood board and rep cut it for free (don’tcha love freebies!!!). Can you tell these pics were taken in the winter? … hint hint = winter jacket in New York:
I wanted to give it a distressed rustic look sooo … HAMMER ATTACK! (it’s a great stress reliever too!).
Then I choose a DARK stain w/polyurethane sealer:
Not sure why I was wearing a necklace with my paint stained jeans … hmmm, I must had done a quick change to my “paint jeans” and didn’t think paint was going to splash up (thank goodness it didn’t!).
Look how the wood beautifully picked up the stain .. yum yum slurrrp.
Below is a peek at the tiny white coat rack that was at the home when we moved in. I loved the hooks (plus, reusing saves us money), so I took the hooks off and got rid of the white rack base. Did you see last week’s post where I show you pics of the painted stripes?
Then we placed the hooks on our wood board (aka: coat rack) and added some other left over hooks I had in my work bin (smaller ones) at the end:
So here it is … our DIY looong rustic coat rack. Do you like our entry door’s peep-hole frame? Inspired by Friends TV show series.
Functionality and styles goes hand in hand in our home. We do have a deep closet in the foyer where we add extra items (coats in winter, beach towels in the summer, gardening stuff, cleaning supplies, etc.) but we love having things ACCESSIBLE to us and our guests sooo … long coat rack was a must for us.
A perfect drop zone for our wet towels when we come in from the pool:
Here’s another view ….. (yep, this pic reveals that photo was taken in the winter = hint = logs in the fireplace!). By the way, the dark wood mirror on the fireplace mantle was my color inspiration for our coat rack color stain …. maintaining a cohesive flowing design from 1 space to the other. Stay tuned for this Wednesday’s Wink post … where I will show a closer look of the rustic mirror revealing how I styled the stripe vases that we received. Have a beautiful day!!!
