Monday’s Make-it … { making a clipboard PRETTY! }

In the office we have lots of projects going on at once that I have decided to use clipboards – hung up on the wall/corkboards so projects are more accessible to more than 1 person. Staples carry large brown clipboards for $1.99 (great price!), but a bit uugghh in color. Soooo, time for operation ‘make pretty’ which involved wrapping pretty paper on the clipboards (I used leftover wallpaper, but you can use gift wraps, contact liners, … any pretty sturdy paper). Here’s the ammunition:

Since the metal portion of the clipboard doesn’t come off easily, I decided to use ‘tracing paper’ to outline it, then use it as a template for the pretty paper. Oh, and for my “tracing paper” (did you notice the quotes???), I am using clear sheet protector sleeves which I always have plenty of in my office. Basically, use anything that is clear (you can even head to your kitchen for wax paper!) so you can see the metal to cut slits on the paper to make it into a template guide.

Here’s a close photos where slits are cut on the paper to go around the metal part so it now becomes a ……… drum roll please – a template!

Then place the template onto the wallpaper (you can trace on the back of it or the front), here my assistant Myra traced on the back of the wallpaper:

Then cut putline out . . . .

. . . . and place the paper WITH AN OVERHANG onto the clipboard (the overhang is so it wraps nicely around the clipboard (I recommend at least a 1″ overhang:

Then it is glue time . . . .

For the back (which we haaaad to decorate as well of course!), we simply cut to size the paper to fit neatly:

Whatchathink of it?

Here’s a peek of the clipboard before and after . . . .

In the office we have clipboards now for every current projects (we add furniture plans to it, fabric swatches, pics of new furniture sourced and waiting for approval, to-dos, and more!

While at Staples I spotted PINK clipboards (Whaaaaa?!) , yep PINK.

I think it may be a limited time only item. I grabbed 3 (did you spot it in the photo), but still kept to my intention of ‘dressing’ the $1.99 brown clipboards. So we will have 3 pinks and 3 paper wrap designs. I love DIYs that costs next to nothing, and look oooh so pretty! Don’t you?

If you created any DIYs lately, do feel free to share your link to it on the comments below. I’m off to finish wrapping the rest of the clipboards! Have a beautiful creative day!
